The Protected Geographical Indication ‘Cherries of the Mountain of Alicante’ has its main production area in the interior of the province, specifically in the Mountain area. The special quality and characteristics (flavor, firmness, texture, etc.) of the cultivated cherries are due to the fact that the area has an optimal microclimate and soil for their cultivation, favoring at the same time the development and vigor of the plantations. It is a dry area, with a minimal incidence of pests and diseases.
The production area is made up of the following municipalities in the province of Alicante:
Vall d'Alcalá, Almudaina, Vall de Gallinera, Vall de Laguar, Benimarfull, Lorcha, Planes, Vall d'Ebo, Beniarrés, Ibi, Alcoy, Jijona, Biar, Villena and Confrides.
