HISTORY:
★ The loquat came to Europe from Japan in the XVIII century as an ornamental tree. In the XIX century began the
consumption of fruits throughout the Mediterranean area, where it adapted very well to the areas of cultivation
of citrus, and becoming the typical fruit of Callosa de Ensarriá, Altea, La NuncÃa, Polop and also from nearby areas, such as the Guadalest Valley.
★ The flowering occurs at the end of autumn or in winter, from October to February. They are days
where the temperatures of the day scarcely exceed 12º - 15º, but the bees take advantage of the loquats flower
because for them there is not so much offer of nectar at that time of the year.
