Ecce Homo Garnacha 2011
DETAILS ECCE HOMO GARNACHA 2011 This is a young Spanish Grenache wine from the Campo de Borja denomination that has been crafted to support a social cause. The Bodegas Aragonesas winery has devoted 100% of the profits Ecce Homo Garnacha to the Centro Ocupacional de Aragón, a local occupational charity center. The label of this bottle depicts a personal interpretation of the 1930 painting “Ecce Homo” located in the Sanctuary of Mercy church in Borja, Zaragoza.
The Grenache Noir (Garnacha Tinta) grapes utilized in this wine were harvested from a selection of 40 year-old grapevines in the sloping hills of Moncayo situated at nearly 2,000 feet above sea level (600 Meters). The soils in this region are full of ferrous clays and contain a high content of slate. The Grenache grapes from the Campo de Borja region of Spain is considered by many wine experts to be the best Grenache grapes in the world.
APPEARANCE This is a brilliant and clean red wine with an intense cherry red colored body and violate edges. There is an inked tear that is fine.
NOSE This Spanish Grenache, Ecce Homo from the Campo de Borja, has surprised us with its high levels of intense fruit aromatics from the Grenache grapes. We can sense ripe red and black fruits along a background of nuanced spices. All of these aromatics are very fresh, pleasant, and well representative of this varietal.
PALATE This wine has a voluminous entrance onto the palate that is big and flavorful. As this wine passes through the palate we can taste very smooth ripe fruits alongside nuanced spices. There are notorious tannins in this palate that are very well integrated and paired with a correct level of acidity. Ecce Homo Grenache presents us with a powerful, long, and persistent finish. Fruit notes are present throughout this entire palate.
